Email address
Perkville uses email address as the primary identifier. This means that more than one customer at your business cannot share the same email address. If they do, they'll be lumped under the same Perkville profile.
Email address and integrated data
Generally, email address is used to link a customer in your POS system/membership system with their Perkville account. This means the automated earning and membership status will be synced over using email address.
A mismatch between a customer's Perkville profile and their profile in your POS will cause a break between the two applications. If a customer is not earning points or is showing as inactive, when they should be active, check if there is a match between their email address.
External member ID
For integrations that sync membership data to Perkville can use external_member_id
as a secondary identifier. Email address uniqueness is always enforced, but external_member_id
can be used to perform operations via the API, such as award points.
A single Perkville profile can be associated with multiple external member records/IDs.
